Caples Creek Loop Trail is a 9.1 mile hike with an elevation gain of about 1200 feet moderately trafficked located near Kyburz, California that offers the chance to see wildlife and is rated as intermediate.

We will be hiking between 5,000' & 6,000'. The hike is mostly through forest and meadows with some creek-side areas. There will be one creek crossing on a large log (hopefully it's still there!).

From the trailhead we'll start hiking on trail 17E51 along the Silver Fork. Just past the confluence with Caples Creek we turn right on trail 17E20, cross a bridge, continue along the Silver Fork for a ways until we start the main uphill climb. We can have lunch at the high point where there is a bit of a view across the forested canyon. The trail continues back down to Caples Creek joining trail 17E71 along the way. There are no signs around here and the trail is faint in spots. After crossing the creek on a log, the trail proceeds to Jake Schneider Meadow, where we turn left to eventually rejoin our original trail past the confluence and then to the trailhead.

Driving directions to trailhead: Take Hwy. 50 east to the town of Kyburz. Shortly past the store turn right on Silver Fork Rd. At about 8.5 miles along the road there will be a rough parking area on the left. The parking area is just before the road turns to the right and crosses a bridge. If you cross the bridge, you've gone too far.
