A man and his wife work in the business of making contact with people's deceased relatives. The man's brother comes along broke looking for a place to stay. He's invited in so he can use his woodworking skills for a special task: making ghosts. The three of them work the racket to perfection, parting numerous fools from their money.
There's one problem: hundreds of dollars are being saved each week by Hubert, with only small amounts given to Virginia and Monk. They hatch a plan to change this situation, involving a switch between dummy and ventriloquist.
"The suckers would pay my brother perfectly good dough for it, and come back for more. Yeah, sure it sounds corny, but you have no idea what suckers will go for."
